::how did that happen?::

It's been quiet here on the blog, but life isn't the same. I'm not really sure how Christmas Eve Eve snuck up so quickly. My mind may still be in October!

::album art::

I made the switch from Pandora to Spotify a while ago and haven't looked back. I love that I can listen to entire albums from new artists. When I'm designing for hours on end, I throw on my headphones and get in the zone. I'm not really sure how I came across Angus & Julia Stone, but I'm glad I did. I think I fell in love with their album cover first. You really can't go wrong with a classic photo with type and some handwritten details.

::interiors::

This space is so clean and simple. I'm not sure where I can find those light bulbs, but I will hunt for them. We've been really good about incorporating plants into the house because Jay is really into bonsai. Since we moved into our house, I've been looking at interior photos with a whole new perspective. Luckily, Jay and I didn't have lots of big furniture pieces to move, but now we're slowly trying to acquire key pieces that we love. Our space is really open, so it's neat to see how we can make the layout work. We ordered a beautiful sofa and next on the list is a dining table.

It's only Monday, but I can't wait until Friday. I have a great friend coming to visit this weekend (hurry up, N!), and I'm sure we'll end up doing some house shopping. She's done amazing work on her new home so I'll be picking her brain.

::a bit of christmas spirit::

I picked up a few Cyber Monday deals from some of my favorites to get me in the Christmas spirit. (the new issue of Kinfolk Magazine and Christmas cards from Rifle Paper Co.)

This is the first year that my Black Friday (well, we didn't make it shopping until Sunday) and Cyber Monday purchases weren't related to clothing or shoes. I guess your priorities really shift when you're in a new house. We found a mattress for a guest bedroom. It's not fun spending money on a bed, especially one you won't be sleeping in. But it gets much better knowing that our house is becoming our home and we can have guest stay in comfort!

What did you buy?

::florida on my mind::

By this time tomorrow night, I'll be hanging out with my little sister! It's been 6 months since I've been home and it's really all I've been thinking about since Monday. My favorite thing in the world is spending time with my family. There will be antique hunting (mostly for wedding decor) and early Thanksgiving dinner and a few wedding meetings thrown in there. June 1st will be here before I know it, and I should probably start making some big decisions. Like, maybe a dress?

::shop update // rustic home decor::

There's lots of new vintage making it's way into the 6 petals shop.

If you want to be the first to know when new items hit the shop, follow 6 petals on Twitter and Facebook

::copy cat::

This is the look I'm going for in my new office/studio space. It helps that I have a lot of the same pieces too: tall metal locker, antlers, wooden shelves and compartments, rustic spools, old suitcases and beautiful typographic elements. I'm really excited to add a cool light fixture. I've been collecting a few pieces for just that.

Handmade AND gorgeous leather. There's lots to love about Elf's shoe collection.

::coupledom::

We're starting to get things settled in our new home. And, it still doesn't feel real sometimes. It's like I'm on a long vacation in someone's house. There are times when I still think my belongings are in our old place. Perhaps a housewarming party will help!

One thing I know for sure is that I really enjoy sharing a space with Jay. I'll try to avoid the lovey-dovey talk (I guess I'm on that path because I just designed our Save the Dates!), but it's true. All the little things that I notice about him makes me happy to know that he's mine. Coupledom is a wonderful thing.

::for print::

With a wedding in just under 7 months, I suppose it's time to start planning. I've been turning to my typography board for a bit of inspiration for Save the Dates, a return address stamp, and all those other little details that make paper so pretty. It's hard to beat a beautiful cursive handwriting mixed with old school serifs. I'll need to practice getting the letters just right.

::sleepless weekend::

I'm quite certain I won't be sleeping much this weekend. I am sure there will be driving, long chats over bottles of wine with an old friend (see you soon, Katie!), meeting a bunch of creative ladies and playing with Photoshop. All in our nation's capital.

::artist spotlight // threepenny bikes::

I came across Threepenny Bikes very randomly, but now I'm dreaming of my own custom bamboo bike. Look at those beauties! Hand crafted from high quality materials and truly one of a kind.
"Each piece of bamboo is unique and must be individually selected and shaped for the frame. This process of selection and hand working is a key reason bamboo bikes are a craft and not an industry." -Threepenny Bikes

::transitions::

In a couple weeks Jay and I will be moving into our first home. A beautiful house with room(s) to grow and play. It also means that I'm pinning places & spaces like a mad man, getting tons of ideas for decorating and making it home sweet home.

Plus, 6 petals will have it's own space, which will kick start the shops back to life! finally...

::make time for these::

The plan is the make time to work on fun projects that have been sitting on the back burner. I have a few vintage "objects" that I'd like to turn into light fixtures, fabric scraps just begging to be braided into a market bag and some large vintage maps that should be displayed in that scroll-like fashion. There's a long list of ideas-- most of them hit me at midnight when I'm trying to sleep. Maybe I'll squeeze one in this weekend.

::when i'm not designing or collecting vintage::

This post is little off my normal topics.

I got chills watching Felix jump off that capsule's ledge. I loved that people from all over the world tuned in to the same live feed to see incredible reality TV, and it's pretty cool to see skydiving get some much publicity. Figured it was a good time to show you guys more of what Jay and I do from time to time.

My company had a talent competition recently, and Jay put together this little video for my entry. The thing I enjoy most about it (and what keeps me jumping) is definitely that I get to fly with him and make memories in the sky. Plus, the view is pretty nice from 13,000 feet.

Have you ever jumped?

Another collection in the works. Should be in the shop soon-ish. More on that later...

::a special gift::

Last time I was home in Florida, I found an alligator skin carrying case filled with old slides tucked away in my grandma's closet. We got them developed and made digital, too.

I'd been waiting for the right time to use that vintage scrapbook. The result was a special birthday gift. Love you, Dad.

::seasonal::

Last weekend, my friend put together a little adventure to a local spot to pick pumpkins. Turns out it was a full on festival complete with petting zoo. You could buy a handful of feed for a quarter, and those alpacas were all about it. Couldn't get enough.

::trinkets::

If you're anything like me you have a few extra things laying around-- mostly vintage of course. They all add to the personality and uniqueness of your home. Some people (the man in the house) will never understand.

::artist spotlight // holly farrell::

At first, I thought I was looking at photographs...

Blown away by these still life paintings from Holly Farrell. The detail is incredible with the shadows, textures, and spot on colors. My favorite...those apothecary bottles down there. Too good.

::autumn air::

I must admit, with the cool evening breezes and must-be-outside kinda afternoons, it's hard not to fall in love with Virginia right now. The leaves aren't screaming yellow and red yet, but I guess what they say about SEASONS isn't so bad. Still, I'll always love hot, sticky Florida.

::vintage & modern::

I love how well this home mixes modern pieces with vintage decor. Little nooks and crannies of stuff to add pops of color and bring personality to a heavy-white space. And seriously, that couch! It's the kind you just want to jump on. Those Scandinavians have some wicked style.

::snapshots of maui::

It's going on two and a half weeks ago, but my mind is obviously still on island time...

Nearing the end of The Road to Hana we came across a shack-like convenience store with rows of shelves on each wall FILLED with antiques. Sadly, none for sale.

Too many beautiful beaches to count.

A picturesque seaside church.

A rewarding sunset from above the clouds after our 12-mile hike through Haleakalā National Park.

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Hutton!

::maui // the video::

We jumped off waterfalls, swam with sea turtles, explored black sand beaches and hiked a volcano. Take me back! It's still sorta unbelievable that we made the trip and frolicked around such a beautiful place, and really, we saw most of the island! What makes Jay and I a great pair is that he's the planner and I'm the spontaneous one. He created an itinerary for 5 of our days, we had the wedding and those festivities, and the rest he let me meander and stumble into different events and locations.

I give all the video credit to Jay. He's found a new hobby in video editing and he uses his GoPros to document lots of our outdoor activities: camping, hiking, snorkeling, skydiving, snowboarding...the list goes on. I think he did a wonderful job. When people ask why he films this stuff he says, "I want my kids to see how much fun Mom and Dad had."

::socks?::

I know what you're thinking. "You up and leave for Maui for over a week and come back to blog about socks?!" Well, hear me out. This whole trip was the first time in a long while I had my eyes off a computer screen for multiple days. Pixels are cool and all, but it was incredible to get away to a new place. Especially one so scenic.

I'm back to the daily grind, the projects are back on the table and there's lots to get done. I'll get some Hawai'i pictures up soon to show you just how beautiful it is there. We had such a fun time with good friends and made some new ones, too. I'm another year older and have big things to look forward to in the next year. Call it another one of those "new outlook on life" sorta deals. Life is good-- I'm so grateful for my supportive and loving family and friends. Mahalo.

At least they're sweet socks.

::a grand adventure // hawaii::

A friend from college is doing the whole destination wedding thing in Maui next week. Our friend from Kentucky. When we got the invite I said, "when's the next chance we'll get to go to Hawaii?" Luckily, that was all it took to convince Jay to book the tickets. We leave today for a nice long trip.

I'll be turning twenty-seven while we're there. Not too shabby. Most days I plan on having no plans and answering the tough questions: pina colada or strawberry daiquiri?

I'll see you guys in a little while, hopefully with a tan.

::more than a few::

Feeling much more inspired after an overdue pinning frenzy. It's been an interesting couple weeks with lots going on-- new ventures, bike rides, ladies nights, tons of design work, multiple episodes of Breaking Bad, and an upcoming trip that seems too good to be true.

Have a lovely week.
