the new & refined 6 petals
In case you haven't seen, heard or read about the new 6 petals site and shop...get ready! The re-launch date is right around the corner (March 3rd). Lots of beautiful vintage clothes have been photographed, we just got the Spring Lookbook photos back from the photographer and the new website and shop are in their final stages. You probably noticed some updated branding as well.
This blog started in 2010 with the opening of an Etsy shop filled with vintage goods for the home. I enjoyed this new-to-me blogging phenomenon so much that I started posting about more things I liked: graphic design, interiors, DIY and personal adventures. Then, another 6 petals Etsy shop opened with a focus on vintage clothing and accessories. Obviously, we're really into the old and beautiful. But we also want to incorporate some new and modern. Part of why we love vintage and antiques is because of the craftsmanship and attention to detail you find. Many of these items were built to last– and the have!
We totally support the American-made trend that's taking shape and hope to build our own community of those that do too. I've been following lots of local, regional and national artist and makers that are dedicated to their craft. They're creating items that will last with great character and craftsmanship. We hope to bring those types of products into the mix of beautiful vintage goods.
You can sign up to receive updates at 6petals.com. And when you do you'll receive an exclusive coupon code for the shop before it opens!
Thanks for visiting this blog. There's a ton of fun stuff happening, so stick around. -christina

::prepping // 6 petals vintage WEARS collection::
This weekend I am staying put to continue prepping for the vintage wears collection. I've decided to dedicate another shop to the 6 petals brand to separate the two collections: one for the home/spaces & one for the lady. I will also be updating the original shop. It's been so rewarding to hear kind words buzzing about the new site and peoples' excitement for the clothing collection. So, THANK YOU...so, so much.
For now, the two shops are bare bones. This is all part of the branding process I suppose. More sophisticated inventory and attention to detail. I promise, you'll like it.

::thoughts on work space::
As I prepare the 6 petals vintage clothing collection, I've been thinking a lot about studios. Though not ideal, I'm lucky to have an extra room and backyard unit dedicated to storage and working space. Business ideas are constantly bouncing around, and I'm dreaming of features that are important to me in a studio.

::hello, new::
It's finally here!
Part
of my New Year's Resolution was to let go of some of the responsibilities in
running my small business. I was fixated on tackling every problem on my own:
design, marketing, acquiring inventory, blogging, social media,
financials...the list goes on. This is where Aprile Elcich comes in.

I remember
stumbling across her dis•po•si•tion thesis a couple years ago. Her style,
collages and colors were a perfect match and I knew I'd like to work with her. Over the past month, she knocked it outta the park with my lovely new web design. The new 6 petals site is simple, filled with my favorite colors & handwritten details to represent some new branding for 6 petals. You'll likely see more of her work around here as this space evolves. Thanks, Aprile!

::pssst...exciting news!::

The finishing touches are taking place!I worked with one of my favorite graphic designers (who I'll brag about next week) and I'm so happy with how it turned out. This new site is for the 6 petals home page-- which was long overdue for a face lift. Eventually, we'll get all the sites (home, blog and shop) on one cohesive platform. Check back next week for the big reveal.

::better together::

I'm riding solo this weekend. He's in South Carolina. Funny how a few days apart can feel like a whole lot longer. It's just better when we're together.
Although, I do have a weekend dedicated to 6 petals. We'll be at the Olde Towne Market Day on Saturday, prepping for a much needed shop update, and writing content for the new homepage design. I'm so excited to share the 6 petals vintage clothing collection too-- coming this summer!

::recap::
Last weekend I set up shop in Olde Towne for the monthly Antiques to Flea Market. A goal of mine this year is to do more shows and make connections with local shops to bring 6 petals offline as well. It was nice to meet other vendors who appreciate beautiful old things as much as I do. And, it was great to have a few of my friends come out and see what I do!
I left the show feeling completely satisfied. It's not easy loading, setting up, breaking down and unpacking, but it's so rewarding when people appreciate the display and collection. Another new addition is the ability to accept credit cards at my booth– this little guy is awesome.

::on the go::
Now, you can read the blog more easily from your smartphone and visit the shop there, too! We're gettin' mobile optimized over here.
Sure, almost every website can be accessed on a phone, but they're not formatted for the screen resolution. After spending the last few month creating mobile websites for small to medium-sized businesses, I've had the opportunity to research mobile technology and mobile websites like crazy. It's amazing how these little devices have changed the way we do things. Most of the time, they never leave our side. I'll give you one fun fact: Google says by 2015 they will be developing for mobile devices first then focusing on desktop sites.

::stamp it::
I'm a huge fan of stamps. When I was little I had a Caboodle filled with them. These days, it's geared towards packaging and branding. A few months ago I designed and ordered four stamps for 6 petals, each with it's own little message...
I'm so happy with these stamps. Mine came from here and the whole process was super easy. They also showed up at my door so quickly-- great, speedy service!

::tiny tree::
Since Jay and I are squeezing more than two people should have into a smaller space, this idea from Jen is a perfect alternative to a full Christmas tree-- and still have that pine tree scent. You can do it too with the the right jars. Get your own from the 6 petals shop with this amazing pair of crocks. I love the type on those guys.
Bring it on, December.

::all over the place::
I've been having some issues with the new laptop...for some reason I thought I was technologically savvy. The Mac gods say otherwise. It sounds like there is a robot inside the cd-rom-- it makes a weird siren noise every now and then. I'm hoping it's newborn hiccups or something similar.
Cheers to working computers and a very happy weekend. Any big plans? I have two auctions lined up and I'm hoping to land an old, large metal sign at this one place. I went early to scout out the inventory up for auction, and I'm a big fan of vintage typography.
In case you're looking for some vintage home decor. 6 petals has you covered. Here are some of the more recent items in the shop.

::shop update // nature calling::
An ode to flora and fauna. Those brass bookends are such a show stopper, those antlers! And of course, the vintage tin collection is growing. I'm also beginning to list some items in sets-- an instant collection. The first is a trio of wall hangings: flowers, deer and mushroom. Oh, and there's a butterfly in there.
