::exploration::

We're off...again. Heading to Richmond to meet up with another couple for a weekend of music, exploring and camping near Shenandoah. They say it's supposed to hit 100 degrees, so blankets won't be necessary. I recently found the yard, my new favorite tumblr (where all these images were collected). You'll get lost planning your next adventure.

Go explore this weekend.

::thoughts on work space::

As I prepare the 6 petals vintage clothing collection, I've been thinking a lot about studios. Though not ideal, I'm lucky to have an extra room and backyard unit dedicated to storage and working space. Business ideas are constantly bouncing around, and I'm dreaming of features that are important to me in a studio.

::i can do it myself::

While I love adventuring on the weekends and seeing new places, it doesn't leave much time at home for arts & crafts. It been a long while since I've done a DIY here (or anywhere for that matter). I'm pretty particular in the 'to make' pins I add to my board. I'm itching for some downtime to create these...

::feeling...::

Some wonderful friends threw us a little engagement party Sunday night at a new winery in Norfolk. We had a private table in the back, sipped on their Mermaid wines and celebrated love. They've sure made the transition to Virginia a lot easier and we're lucky to have them in our lives.

::hello, new::

It's finally here!Part of my New Year's Resolution was to let go of some of the responsibilities in running my small business. I was fixated on tackling every problem on my own: design, marketing, acquiring inventory, blogging, social media, financials...the list goes on. This is where Aprile Elcich comes in.
I remember stumbling across her dis•po•si•tion thesis a couple years ago. Her style, collages and colors were a perfect match and I knew I'd like to work with her. Over the past month, she knocked it outta the park with my lovely new web design. The new 6 petals site is simple, filled with my favorite colors & handwritten details to represent some new branding for 6 petals. You'll likely see more of her work around here as this space evolves. Thanks, Aprile!

I could brag about Aprile more and definitely recommend her work! Check out her impressive portfolio and inspirational blog.

::kentucky boat life::

The month of June has been a lot of running around with a handful of events on the calendar, and making an appearance in a few different cities and states. We've been looking forward to this month for a while, but now it all seems to go by so fast.

Two weekends ago we settled on a houseboat in Kentucky. A college friend rallied a fine group and it made for his long birthday celebration on Lake Cumberland just outside his hometown of Louisville. I wouldn't say we were roughin' it with beds, refrigerator and air conditioning, but it was perfection waking up to chirping birds, sparkling blue-green water and not another boat as far as the eye could see.

Days were filled with wakeboarding, wake surfing, cliff jumping and sun bathing. After dinners off the grill, the guys would venture down the bank to shoot off fireworks. It was nice to have no obligations and no reason to bother looking at a clock.

::west asheville::

My tad-bit-country friend, Nicole, got married in Asheville, NC earlier this month (yes, she says y'all). Before the wedding we ventured down to quaint West Asheville for a good breakfast spot.

Somehow, I completely missed getting any photos of her rustic, farm venue. But it was so perfect for her and her hubby; complete with horses, shotgun shell place card holders, mixed-matched vintage table settings and she even sported cowboy boots for a bit. When I was still in Florida, we'd meet up during our lunch breaks to hunt for vintage wooden picture frames and milk glass. She also used the design we created for her save the date on water bottles. It was so fun to see it all come together.

Congratulations to the Roe's!

P.S. I'm going to wait until Monday to go live on the new 6 petals site. I need to update a few links and make sure it's perfect. Can't wait to share it with ya. Happy weekend!

::ankle boot heaven::

I know I just posted about some shoes, but today I came across Hudson. I'm in ankle boot heaven. The buttery soft leather, lovely brown shades + colors and fun little details. There's no way I could keep this jackpot to myself. Boot lovers unite!

::ballerina on a string::

The work of Banksy always makes me smile. I love his creativity and certain defiance for authority-- pushing the limit to make art speak louder than words. I hadn't seen this one before, but what a beautiful idea.

Such great lighting and perfect summer-inspired photos in this pictorial from 80s purple.

::pssst...exciting news!::

The finishing touches are taking place!I worked with one of my favorite graphic designers (who I'll brag about next week) and I'm so happy with how it turned out. This new site is for the 6 petals home page-- which was long overdue for a face lift. Eventually, we'll get all the sites (home, blog and shop) on one cohesive platform. Check back next week for the big reveal

::starting early::

We're taking off a little early this week. Our good friend from college is celebrating his birthday with a weekend on the water with fireworks, booze and the warm Kentucky sunshine. Not too shabby if you ask me. I've never been to KY, but I'm sure it'll be just perfect. We haven't seen this group in a while and it's always nice to reconnect and share stories. Hopefully I return well relaxed and with sun-kissed skin.

Have a beautiful weekend! See ya back here Tuesday. -christina

::the old fashioned type::

Whenever I'm in need of some inspiration, I can always turn to typography. I'm especially fond of early type treatments and classic lettering because it's the perfect mix of serif, sanserif and unique cursive or calligraphy. No need for heavy graphics and tons of color either-- let the type do all the work in black and white.

::cut it out::

If there's one thing I have too many of, it's shoes. Stereotypical, I know. But I don't have any of these cool cut-out kicks. Which are your favorite?

::artist spotlight // herriott grace::

I remember when I stumbled upon the Herriott Grace shop-- it was one of those jaw-dropping moments. The quality and craftsmanship of the products is stunning. Not only are the items beautiful, so is the product photography. Nikole creates picture perfect settings with her father's woodwork (they also carry handmade linen towels, cookie cutters, and porcelain kitchen ware). I just love these teak spoons.

Take a second to read their story, it's a good one. They shot a short film documenting her father's work, and just released the teaser. It's such a sweet little clip. Makes me miss my amazing dad...

::pretty clutter VS minimalism::

When it comes to decorating I usually fall into the "pretty clutter" category. As a collector, I can't help it! I come across such unique pieces in my treasure hunting that it's hard to pass up another cool item for my space. I decorate like I salt...I sprinkle it all over. Do I need it? Definitely not. This is what I'm trying to tame.

I'm also drawn to more minimalist and simple settings that let the architectural lines, nature of the materials and necessary furniture pieces speak for themselves.

With everything, I guess it's all about finding that balance.

::out back::

It's been so beautiful in our backyard. I'm really not sure why we've been eating dinner inside at all. That's gonna change. It's the perfect place to sip a little wine and relax from the daily grind. Those roses are as big as my head.

*edit: yes, this is my backyard.

::changing habits::

On May 1st I began a vegetarian diet. It all started with a handful of Netflix documentaries that left me feeling rather nauseous. So, each morning started with green juice. To my luck, Fruitive just opened in Virginia Beach...where I finally tried beet juice. And liked it.

A couple months ago I found myself with a bag of Funyuns...yes, Funyuns! Embarrassing. After a long career in various sports through college, I've become so sedimentary. Most of my playing these days happens in Photoshop. However, lugging around loads of vintage goods to Market Day is considered a workout in my book. But something needs to change. Before I had a j-o-b, I was active daily. Now, this is where the excuses pile up, "I'm too tired" "My friends are having a dinner party" "I need to brush my hair". This past weekend, my friend took me to hot yoga. I'd taken a hot yoga class during a trip to Costa Rica years ago, but this time it was rough. It's like I didn't know my own body. But I'm hooked, and I can cross this one off my to do list.

I've acquired poor eating habits since I left college. Shouldn't that happen IN college? When we were younger, my parent's rarely had soda in the house (if ever), fast food wasn't commonplace, and we were fortunate to have home-cooked family dinners at the table every night. My mom is Superwoman. This is a venture back to that. Back to the healthy habits I learned at an early age and hope to pass on to my children.

The month wasn't completely meatless. I couldn't resist my grandfather's steak sandwiches that my dad grilled up over Memorial Day. I don't regret it.

*I didn't intend on getting so lengthy here. I'm motivated and becoming passionate about this. What do you practice to stay healthful?

::artist spotlight // schoolhouse electric & supply co.::

I have a deep appreciation for companies that focus on keeping a certain aesthetic and nostalgia. Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. really shines through with their attention to history and quality. Inspiring...

::better together::

I'm riding solo this weekend. He's in South Carolina. Funny how a few days apart can feel like a whole lot longer. It's just better when we're together.

Although, I do have a weekend dedicated to 6 petals. We'll be at the Olde Towne Market Day on Saturday, prepping for a much needed shop update, and writing content for the new homepage design. I'm so excited to share the 6 petals vintage clothing collection too-- coming this summer!
